Shopify + TikTok Ads: catalog sync and clean Events API signal
TikTok's algorithm is only as good as the conversion signal it receives, and browser-based pixels lose a lot of it. Connecting Shopify to TikTok properly means a synced catalog plus the Events API for server-side conversions. This guide covers the setup iClick uses so TikTok can optimize against real purchases, not a leaky pixel.

- Product catalog sync from Shopify to TikTok for shopping ads
- Pixel plus Events API for durable server-side conversion tracking
- Purchase, add-to-cart, and view events for algorithm learning
- Deduplication between browser and server events
- Dynamic product ads driven by the Shopify catalog
Setup steps
- 1
Install the TikTok channel and sync the catalog
Install the TikTok for Shopify channel and connect your TikTok Business account. Let the product catalog sync so shopping ads and dynamic product ads have accurate items, prices, and availability.
Confirm the catalog approves in TikTok and that key products are not rejected for missing fields or policy issues.
- 2
Set up the pixel and Events API together
Configure the TikTok pixel for browser events, then add the Events API for server-side events. The Events API is what keeps conversion signal intact when browsers block the pixel.
Use a shared event ID between the pixel and the Events API so TikTok can deduplicate and not double-count a purchase seen on both.
- 3
Verify event quality
In TikTok's events manager, check that purchase, add-to-cart, and view-content events fire with values and that the Events API match quality is healthy. TikTok's optimization depends on receiving clean, valued purchase events.
Fix any events firing without value or with mismatched parameters before scaling spend.
- 4
Reconcile against Shopify
Compare TikTok-reported conversions and revenue against Shopify's own reports. TikTok tends to claim view-through and cross-device conversions, so the platform number usually overstates its contribution. Reconcile before drawing budget conclusions.
Common issues
Fix. Set a shared event ID on both the browser pixel and the server Events API event so TikTok deduplicates them into one conversion.
Fix. Pass more matching parameters, such as hashed email and phone where consented, so TikTok can attribute server events reliably.
Fix. Usually missing fields, policy issues, or image problems. Fix at the Shopify product level so corrections persist through catalog refreshes.
Fix. TikTok counts view-through and cross-device conversions generously. Reconcile against Shopify revenue and judge scaling on blended results, not TikTok's last-touch number.
