LSA vs Google Ads for lawyers: which product wins for your practice?
LSA wins on cost-per-signed-case in single-market practices; Search wins on scale, control, and out-of-metro capture. Run both.
Local Services Ads are usually the higher-quality lead source for personal injury, family law, and estate practices in top-25 US metros. Google Ads Search wins on volume, ad copy control, and multi-state scaling. Most iClick law-firm clients run both, with 55 to 70 percent of intake budget on LSA and the rest on Search.
| Dimension | Local Services Ads (LSA) | Google Ads (Search) |
|---|---|---|
| Cost-per-lead (Q4 2025 median) | $45-$130 | $85-$310 |
| Lead quality (intake-to-signed-case) | 8-14% | 4-9% |
| Setup time from zero | 3-6 weeks (verification) | 1-2 weeks |
| Ad copy control | None (Google chooses) | Full |
| Multi-city scaling | One market per LSA account | Unlimited geo |
| Budget floor for viability | $3K/mo per market | $8K/mo per practice area |
| Review-velocity dependency | Very high | Moderate |
| Suspension risk | High (LSA policy is strict) | Low |
| Attribution clarity | Every call recorded | Requires call-tracking setup |
- Single-metro practice with 6+ Google reviews already
- Personal injury, family, or estate practice with strong intake conversion
- Budget under $10K/mo total (LSA CPL beats Search here)
- You need calls specifically, not form leads
- Google Screened badge is a positioning win for your niche
- Multi-state practice with brand or class-action focus
- You need ad-copy control for niche practice areas
- Budget over $25K/mo (Search scales past LSA's per-market ceiling)
- You are running remarketing, YouTube, or Discovery alongside intake
- Your intake team converts LP form fills as well as calls
LSA is a per-lead pricing model; Search is per-click. That difference cuts two ways: LSA looks cheaper on the surface because you only pay when the phone rings, but Google's rev-share on booked cases (via disputes) has been pushing effective CPL up 15 to 25 percent since 2024. Model both against your booked-case rate, not headline CPL.
iClick recommends 3-5 week LSA verification runs in parallel with Search always-on. Do NOT pause Search when you launch LSA, the two feed different intent segments and Search protects your brand searches while LSA verification is pending.
