Klaviyo + Google Ads: turn email segments into bidding signals
Klaviyo knows who your best customers are, and Google Ads can act on that if you connect them. Syncing Klaviyo segments into Google as Customer Match audiences lets you bid up for lookalikes of high-value buyers, suppress recent purchasers, and treat new versus returning customers differently. This guide covers the ecommerce setup iClick uses.
A 47-point written audit of your Google, Meta or Shopping account, back in five business days.

- Klaviyo segments synced into Google Ads as Customer Match audiences
- New-customer bidding using your existing-customer list as the exclusion
- Suppression of recent purchasers from prospecting campaigns
- Higher bids for searches from lookalikes of high-value segments
- Value signals that align Google bidding with real customer worth
Setup steps
- 1
Build the segments worth acting on
In Klaviyo, define the segments that matter for bidding: high lifetime-value customers, recent purchasers, lapsed buyers, and VIPs. These are the lists you will use to shape Google Ads spend, so they should reflect real value, not vanity groupings.
Ensure the segments are kept current, since a stale high-value list slowly loses its predictive power.
- 2
Sync segments to Google Ads Customer Match
Push the chosen segments into Google Ads as Customer Match audiences, either through a supported connector or a scheduled export and import. Customer Match uses hashed email to match your list against signed-in Google users.
Respect consent: only upload contacts whose data you are permitted to use for advertising, and confirm the audience meets Google's minimum match-size thresholds.
- 3
Configure new-customer bidding
Feed your existing-customer list into Google's new-customer acquisition goal so bidding can value a new customer differently from a repeat buyer. Combined with conversion value rules, this steers spend toward acquiring customers rather than paying to reconvert people who would have bought anyway.
This is one of the highest-leverage uses of a Klaviyo list in Google Ads.
- 4
Apply suppression and value adjustments
Use recent-purchaser segments as suppression audiences on prospecting campaigns, and apply conversion value rules to bid more for lookalikes of high-value segments. Keep the audiences on a refresh schedule so suppression reflects the latest purchases.
Common issues
Fix. Google enforces minimum match sizes. Broaden the segment or combine related segments, and ensure emails are clean so the match rate is high enough for the audience to become active.
Fix. Confirm the recent-purchaser audience is actually applied as an exclusion on the prospecting campaigns, and that it refreshes often enough to include new purchases.
Fix. Only upload contacts you are permitted to use for advertising. Keep consent records, and exclude anyone who has not agreed to this use of their data.
Fix. Wire the existing-customer list into the new-customer acquisition goal and add conversion value rules, so Google can distinguish and value them differently.
